mayans mc season 4 review
At the risk that this recap makes EZ Reyes Dark Knight a bit too heavy, EZ has lived enough to be the villain.
The Season 4 finale of mayans MC, which was not renewed for a fifth round, saw EZ transform into the same power-hungry member as Bishop at this time last season… and we all know how that turned out. Mayans please protect Sally.
Here’s the latest from the war front: Sons of Anarchy veteran Tig (yay Tig!) Alvarez meets with Tig in Los Angeles to discuss the next steps in the ongoing Sons-vs. Mayans war. Tig tells Alvarez during that conversation that the Mayans did not invade the Sons’ territory at the start of the war. It started when “some chick”, Santo Padre bartender Jess, came to the Sons bearing Montez’s Kutte after finding it in a barrel on Mayan land.
Alvarez insists that he doesn’t know anything about the Montez situation. And, curiously, the Tig piece of information does not come up during the finale. This is not the case when Alvarez tells Santo Padre about his meeting his with Tig or when prospect Nestor clearly observes Jess being sloppy and texting during her shift her. If the Montez catalyst does indeed come up, it will not be until Season 5.

Alvarez and his Santo Padre Men later assemble around their meeting table shortly after EZ, Sofia and a few Sons are attacked during a motorcycle ride. Alvarez claims that the attack was not sanctioned and that it was carried out by a Sons contingent gone rogue. Alvarez also said that he had spoken with Chibs, the president of SAMCRO, about how the Sons have reached an agreement to ceasefire. This is not a total surrender, much to the dismay of EZ.
EZ is also frustrated with Alvarez: EZ had earlier asked Alvarez to end his business relationship with El Banquero’s sister, Soledad. EZ claimed that this would be a fatal blow to the club. Alvarez refused to comply, so EZ went to Bishop and suggested that Alvarez be removed. Bishop would then take his place his as president.
This clause allows a president to be removed if he’s voted in unanimously. EZ informs his brothers that they have two options: keep Alvarez and ostensibly bow to the Sons of Anarchy or fight for their charter’s survival. Alvarez is expelled as each man votes. Alvarez, on his way out of the room, reminds them that he built this club and that he is happy he won’t be there to witness it burn.
The episode’s most shocking twist is when EZ turns to Bishop, whom he had promised to reinstate as Santo Padre President. “Everyone in the templum knows who you are. He then says, “I want to make you… my Vice President.” This shocked everyone, especially Bishop. EZ then takes a seat at the top of the table where Alvarez was, and makes a strange, cult leader-like speech on “our nation” as well as “a new rising” and his plans his to “lift us all to greatness. ”
Angel reaches out to his brother after the other members have left and tells EZ that he hasn’t been recognizable since Gaby was killed. EZ insists that he is helping the club in a way others are afraid to, namely by agreeing that Soledad would move heroin. EZ warns, “If you don’t want to be on this train, you should walk away or it will run over you.” Angel asks, “Is that a threat?” But EZ simply squeezes Angel’s shoulders real and then leaves the room.
The episode ends with us back in the warehouse that Soledad keeps his heroin supply. A black man in a hoodie and all black enters, doesuses the entire place with gasoline, and light a match. However, the identity of the arsonist is not revealed.
* Letty receives Coco’s old car, a chartreuse Chevy Nova, and she uses it to save Hope from the addictions she met on her way home from work.
Manny was among the Mayans kidnapped and set on fire by the Sons. This marks one of the most horrific deaths of the season.
* Talking of deaths, Jay Jay Jay’s wife shoots and kills EZ, prompting Jay Jay Jay’s wife to search for him at EZ’s trailer. Sofia, however, covers Jay Jay Jay’s beau and claims that EZ was there the whole night before. El Banquero has his throat cut by Adelita. Who is currently working for Soledad now? I have questions.
* Emily is shocked to receive a call from Galindo who has Cristobal with him (and Emily can make out that her sister was hurt). Galindo informs Emily that it’s over and it’s time for her to return home. He also forgives Emily for bailing out on him.
* Perhaps most shockingly, Creeper finally agrees to cooperate the cops and give intel about the Santo Padre charter. Kody had previously said to him that this was the only way they could get out of this mess. Kody is shocked and disappointed that Creeper didn’t offer any assistance. Instead, he took the fall for all Santo Padre’s murders, insisting that none of them were aware or part of his club.
